Vegetable Tanned Leather (Leather Working Group Gold Certified) / Hand Painted Edges / Hand Stitched
First things first - I cannot take credit for this beautiful design. It's an attempt at replicating the Yenisei Mayna Hip Bag from Thisispaper. Check them out they make beautiful products.
My sister wanted a convertible hip bag so this simple design, yet complex construction (given my very limited tools and experience), became the perfect opportunity grow my leather working skills. A few things that were very challenging in the process:
1) The natural vegetable tanned leather does not forgive. It had to be handled with ultimate care in order to achieve this clean look because it will show every scratch, stain, defect, etc. Things can get messy very quickly.
2) The edge paint on the natural leather had to be applied perfectly in order to get clean, crisp, contrast edges;
3) The welt construction bottom was a new construction technique, definitely more challenging than the classic flat bottom style but so beautiful.
Can be worn 4 ways: as a hip bag (front & back) and as a crossbody bag (front and back).
As a hip bag back (left) and front (right)
As a crossbody bag back (left) and front (right)
